Spectacular events venue in central York, moments from the Minster!
The hall has information about the Vicars Choral, who originally inhabited the building. I highly recommend the tearoom as they have lovely cakes.
Nice wedding venue for my sisters wedding. Kitchen possibly a little small for any more than the guests we had (50ish). Would have been nice to have the bar open before the ceremony as it was 20degrees outside with no refreshments in the immediate vicinity.

The National Railway Museum is a must and a fabulous place to take young children. A tremendous amount of railway history in one place from the Rocket, the first ever intercity passenger train in the world running from Crown Street Station in Liverpool, to the Mallard, the Royal Scot, and the Maglev and Bullet trains. Great cafe, great activities for the kids, and a fabulous little miniature railway. Right next to Yorks mainline Station so it’s really easy to get to.
Lots and lots of trains here and some famous ones too. Everything from Royal carriages to fish transporters. There are two halls and a north and south shed. The first hall houses mostly steam collection, the Mallard and Shinkansen are in the grand hall, the south shed is currently closed and the north shed is a storage area of railway related object which is in itself a museum. Covid safe measures in place all around. Only thing that let this lovely place down is the bad service from the Grand Hall Cafe.
It is a very good collection. I think you should go there on a morning. Car park is available abit 300m away which costs £ 10 for allday and there is no hourly charging in this car park. Plan your whole day while car is being parked here which saves money for parking. It takes nearly 4 hours if you see it in detail.
